Outline |

Recording type DVD devices widely used for external recording by devices such as PCs are, in addition to an increased recording speed and recording capacity by multi-layered recording, being slimmed down to enable mounting onto Notebook PCs.
As a result, the Red Laser Diode as the light source is required to be smaller and to be able to obtain a high light output, even under high-temperature conditions in high-density packages. In order to meet such needs, we have developed Red Laser Diodes for recording type DVD devices capable of high temperature operation at 80°C and a high pulse light output of 270 mW (Existing: 75°C, 200 mW), even in a small package with an outside diameter of 3.8 mm. |

Features |
Excellent operational characteristics, even at 80°C.
Thermal design is easy, even with high-density packaging, by miniaturizing the light disk device and light pickup module. |
High output of 270 mW pulse
Capable of quad-speed by double-layered disk recording in slim type recording DVD devices integrated into Notebook type PC. |
Small, round small package with outside diameter
of φ3.8.
Optimizing the structure and material of the package improves the heat radiation characteristics. This makes the above high-temperature, high-output operation possible with a small, round package of φ3.8
. This expanded the degree of freedom in designing DVD pickups. |

Future Deployment |
We anticipate that the market for the slim-type
drive for notebooks will continue to expand. As a next model,
we will go forward in developing a high-output product (ML129F27)
with more than 300 mW pulse capable of double-layered octuple-speed
recording. |
